Non Freezing Cold Injury (NFCI) Claims

It is inevitable for a member of the armed forces to spend a substantial amount of time outdoors – often in cold and wet climates. In these circumstances, a non-freezing cold injury can occur (NFCI), also known as trench foot or cold weather injury (CWI). NFCI causes permanent nerve and blood vessel damage if left untreated.  Get the compensation you deserve with the help of our experienced solicitors. To schedule a free consultation, contact us.

What Is A Non-Freezing Cold Injury?

NFCI happens when parts of the body (most often the hands and feet) are exposed to wet and cold conditions for long periods, without being dried and warmed up. Then on warming, sufferers may experience pain and a yellowish appearance in the affected area, or redness, swelling and significant and lasting pain. It affects mainly the hands and feet and the signs and symptoms can include:

  • Pain.
  • Numbness.
  • Swelling.
  • A ‘stabbing’ feeling.
  • Pins and Needles.
  • Colour changes.
